Your hair always looks its best when you leave my chair—fresh, soft, shiny, and full of life. But what about the days and weeks in between visits to my salon here in West Columbia? I get asked all the time how to keep that healthy, beautiful look going until your next appointment. The good news is, it’s not complicated. A few small changes to your routine can go a long way toward keeping your hair looking and feeling amazing.

Here are five simple things I always recommend to my clients to help maintain healthy hair between visits.

1. Don’t Overwash Your Hair

One of the most common mistakes I see is people shampooing their hair way too often. It might feel like you’re doing something good for your hair, but overwashing actually strips away the

natural oils your scalp produces to keep your hair healthy and hydrated.

Most people only need to shampoo two to three times a week. If your hair gets oily or you’re used to washing every day, try using a gentle dry shampoo in between washes instead. And always make sure you’re using a sulfate-free shampoo—it’ll help protect your beautiful hair color and keep your hair from drying out.

2. Always Use Conditioner

Conditioner isn’t optional—it’s an important part of your hair care routine. It helps smooth the hair cuticle, locks in moisture, and keeps your hair soft and manageable. I always tell my clients to focus conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends, where your hair needs it most.

If your hair feels extra dry or damaged, I offer a hair repair treatment right here in the salon, but you can also use a deep conditioner once a week at home. That little extra step can make a huge difference in the way your hair looks and feels.

3. Protect Your Hair from Heat

We all love a good blowout or some loose curls, but heat styling can do real damage if you’re not careful. Any time you use a blow dryer, flat iron, or curling iron, be sure to use a heat protectant spray or cream. It creates a barrier that helps prevent breakage and keeps your hair looking smooth and healthy.

Also, try to keep the heat setting low to medium—not cranked up to the highest level. Your hair will thank you in the long run.

4. Get Regular Trims

Even if you’re growing your hair out, regular trims are so important. I see a lot of guests who avoid trimming because they’re afraid to lose length, but skipping trims can actually make your hair look thinner and less healthy over time.

A trim every 8–12 weeks helps prevent split ends and breakage. It doesn’t have to be a big cut—just enough to keep your ends fresh. When you visit me, I’m always happy to help you figure out the right schedule based on your hair goals.

5. Be Gentle and Hydrate

The way you treat your hair every day matters. That means brushing gently, avoiding super tight ponytails or buns, and using a wide-tooth comb to detangle when your hair is wet.

And don’t forget—what you put in your body shows up in your hair. Drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet can do wonders for your hair’s health and shine.
