This is a topic that keeps coming up in my mind, salon, and my daily struggle yes I struggle with this topic too! So lets do some digging.....
~ First normal hair loss is about 50 to 100 strands per day or about 250 when washed.
If you are noticing more than that you may be suffering from one or a few of these causes: Thyroid or Autoimmune disease (both what I suffer from) , Anemia (check for me too), Pregnancy, PCOS, Psoriasis Seborrheic Dermatitis, Menopause, Dramatic Weight Loss ( this one too) , too Vitamin A, too much Protein, Extreme Stress, Physical Trauma, Medicines, Infections, Chemicals, Mineral Build Up and the list goes on....
More common causes can be from brushing too much, brushing the hair when wet (its most fragile state) excessive styling heat, excessive towel drying and friction when sleeping....
My personal hair loss nightmare happened about 3-4 years ago when I underwent Gastric Sleeve Surgery and lost a lot of weight and my thyroid levels decided to tank again too. Man it sure was a mess I remember being home for a visit and I shampooed my hair and started freaking out bc my hair was falling out in clumps. That next week I flew back to Colorado and had my hair cut and that's when my friend suggested that I try Cedarwood oil in my shampoo ( Doterra or Young Living Brand) 10 drops per 9 oz bottle and the Hair, Skin and Nail vitamins store brand will do and after about 2-3 weeks all the hair loss stopped cold. Now from what I have read the hair loss normally can last from 2 weeks to 6 months from some of the above conditions. Tip 3. have a monthly conditioning treatment done especially when doing a hair cut or coloring appointment.
Tip 4. Satin Pillow Case to prevent breakage at night
Tip 5. Don't pull your hair up tight do what I call a Mom knot lol
Tip 6. Use a good shampoo & conditioner
Tip 7. Drink a lot of water
Tip 8. use a good detangler / heat protectant on your hair
Tip 9. Take your Biotin
and finally Tip 10. Don't shampoo your hair too often and use conditioner on your hair!
